PE in Term Two

This term in PE we focused on sequences in gymnastics. We performed a variety of skills with confidence and with an emphasis on quality. We learned how to perform partner balances using counter-balance and counter-tension, in cooperating these balances into group sequences. As a group we created a sequence using apparatus. After observing each others performances, we had an opportunity to reflect on them and provide constructive feedback and recognised how this feedback leads to improvement.

The specific Learning Outcome for the Primary 5's was:
to move efficiently in personal and shared space.
and for the Primary 6's:
to perform and refine movement with a focus on quality, using different speed, pathways and levels.

Advent is Here

We took some time to made origami trees for our advent 'calendar'.  It was quite tricky but we worked together well and helped each other when necessary.  It was great to see so much perseverance and determination too!

We also wrote a special message for someone in the class to open on their chosen day.
Everyone smiles when they read the kind words.  A few comments have summed it up perfectly - 'It is nice to share what other people like about us' and 'It makes you feel good about yourself and your friends.'

Lighting up the Christmas Tree

One of us was very lucky to get chosen to help light the school Christmas tree.  It was lovely to be together with everyone and sing some festive songs.

Christmas is Coming!

We are in the midst of planning two special events where we hope to share the spirit of giving and togetherness .  The first of these is for the Nursery and Pre-School bairns.  They are going to have the opportunity to take part in lots of Christmas activities which we have designed and planned.  We have also been thinking about the skills we are developing; with many of them relating to leadership and teamwork.

The second event is a class visit to St Rognvald's Residential Home.  Here we are going to share some of our own Christmas stories and sing some songs.
We are all looking forward to these two days and creating special memories for groups of people in our community.

Improvisation in Drama

Mrs Linklater has been working with us to develop our skills in improvisation and presenting our work to an audience.  We have been using the context of empathy as a basis for our learning.  We have been focusing on this social skill in the classroom too.

Skills in Learning

We have been thinking about the different knowledge, skills and attitudes we value from having to move our learning forward.  Working in small groups, we identified skills we use in different areas of the curriculum.   We found that many of them can be applied to more than one subject.

Remembrance and Peace in Class 5/6

We spent last week thinking about remembrance and peace.  There was lots to talk about; from events in the past to current issues in the news.
We took time to reflect on Armistice Day and write about how we find our own peace.

P5 learning with Ms MacKay

P5 have had a busy week learning about different topics in science and technology.
Please look at the blog page below to discover more.

P6 Trip to Hoy

It was one adventure after another for the Primary 6's this week.  They spent 3 days in Hoy taking part in lots of different outdoors activities.  Each person had their own challenges, whether that be learning a new skill or tackling an anxiety.  They all worked hard and came home proud of their achievements.

A Busy Week

Class 6 have been very busy this week with cycling and girl's football.

First Few Weeks in Class 5/6

We have been getting to know one another by taking part in group challenges.  All of these activities  have involved co-operating and working closely with our peers.    The first set of pictures show us building a tower, 10cm high to hold a tennis ball.

One day we were challenged to 'move' everyone in the group from one side of the playground to the other using 2 sheets of newspaper.  No one was allowed to step on the tarmac.
